Intervu Run Scream Die
“Tuck!” Poster
I sat down with Kevin Groves to talk to him about his show: Run, Scream Die
“My show captures that daft behaviour and the audience quite quickly sees what is coming and we now wait for the outcome – just how though will they meet their end?”
Run Scream Die is an homage to slasher horror, equal parts terrifying, and equal parts hilarious. Kevin is a lifelong lover of the genre.
I ask him about his process behind the show:
“The writing was easy. One of the stories 'Babysitter' has been one of my most popular stories I tell at events.” He tells me. “However, this is theatre. I did the FreshFest at The Old Red Lion earlier in 2025 and while the audience loved the stories, the review said that doing the usual storytelling approach in a theatre lacked the visual side.” Modestly, he adds, “Fair point.”
He goes on to tell me about the ingenious way he took this feedback on, “After that two day run I had a think of what set and costume I could reasonably come up with. Then I hit it. A fake auction.” He clarifies for me, “Just some overalls, a flat cap, and some lots which could be key items 'recovered' from the scenes of the stories. Add some back lighting and I have a props and costume that can be easily put in a tote bag and carted around.” Happily, he says “The audience love the concept from comments I've received from them.”
Due to the history of ‘Babysitter,’ I ask if this show is similar to his other work?
Intriguingly, he tells me, “Stories are my thing, in a way the delivery (though a little more theatrical than usual – I've been doing a lot of improv lately) is much the same as other work. The content though is different. Previous UK tours have been telling stories from ancient Egypt which I love as well as kids shows.”
He goes on to tell my about what else he is working on, “I'm looking at trying it as a two hander for next year.” Amazingly, he tells me that he’s even “producing radio plays, with two of the recent ones are longer versions of two stories from this show, all with pro cast.”
I ask Kevin about why people should come and see Run See Die:
He replies, “Come for the thrills.” Before expanding, “It is such a fun filled hour of dark humour and grisly ends.” He goes on to tell me about some of the audience reactions, “Some have left a little shaken due to the twists I love to put into my work, and often laugh too at the relief at the slasher payoff which is why we tend to watch such content. I aim to entertain after all. Not gory horror, just playing along with the audience to see how things turn out. It is a journey together.”
I ask him if there is anything on that moment he is interested in seeing:
“I will see if I can see the show on before mine 'Quiet Light.’” A horror play set entirely on a lighthouse with a monstrous entity.
With such a large body of work, I ask Kevin if he had any advice for anyone looking to make their start in the industry:
Wisely, he says, “Just go for it. I throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. Some of it does, some of it doesn't. Network too as you never know who is watching.” Finally, he adds, “Most importantly enjoy.”
I ask Kevin what’s next on the cards for him:
“This is the last show of my UK tour for 2025.” He goes on to say, “I'm working on a screen play so hopefully that will go somewhere next year. I'm always writing and looking at what performance opportunities are out there, for me, and for my new performing partner which is an exciting development.”
Run Scream Die will perform at Grimfest at the Barons Court Theatre on the 16th of October at 8:30pm. Tickets can be found here: https://app.lineupnow.com/event/run-scream-die-1
